They asked me what my ideal night out in a foreign country would consist of.
As I've just moved from Germany to Australia I'll of course tell you what a perfect night out here in Perth would be like for me.

Adapting to a new language can be hard, even if it's the world language English. I've been learning English for over one decade now and speak it fluently, however I've never learned Australian English at school or university. The Australians have their own slang and like to abbreviate words as much as possible. They say brekky instead of breakfast, arvo instead of afternoon, barbie instead of barbecue and they throw in their beloved filler word "ay" a lot. Getting to know the Aussie slang will work best if you spend a night out with Australians of course!

And here is what my ideal night in Australia would consist of:
It would definitely have to be a barbecue party because I heard it's one the Aussie's favourite things to do. As this is an outdoor activity, I would wear my colourful breezy dress and the obligatory hat against the sun. A statement necklace as a little eyecatcher and flat shoes to feel comfortable.
Some cool beers would probably go along with the food and loosen the tongue to practice the newly learned Aussie slang words among the native speakers.
If got stuck and weren't able to remember a certain word in such a situation I would simply use Smartling's

What about you guys? If you could spend one night abroad where would you go, what would you do, wear and eat?

Thank you Smartling.com, that was a fun post to write!

Happy Thursday everyone!

my first days in Perth

Hello people!

I arrived in Perth (Australia) 3 days ago and now finally found some time to fill you in on what has happened so far. I'm safe and sound, feel good in my new home and of course I'm more than happy to have my boyfriend back after 8 months of long distance relationship stress.
But let's start with the flight:

I had one of the "shortest" flights available to Australia from Germany and in total it took me about 22 hours from Düsseldorf to Perth. I was so lucky to fly with Etihad Airways, an Abu Dhabi based airline, which offered amazing service even though I "only" booked Coral Economy Class. There were plenty of meals and snacks, as many blankets and cushions as you liked and friendly stewardesses everywhere.
I had a smooth 6 hour flight from Düsseldorf to Abu Dhabi, then a 3 hour layover and afterwards the 12 hour flight straight to Perth. I watched lots of movies on the first flight and slept through most of the second one, so it was absolutely pleasant and unproblematic.

Jarryd picked me up from the airport, which was overwhelmingly awesome and made me cry tears of joy and relief. It was so good to hug him again after such a long time and I've been enjoying every minute with him ever since.
On my second day here he took me to the South Perth Foreshore from where you have a lovely view on Perth's skyline. The weather was mild and a bit rainy, but it was still a great view and it was the weirdest feeling to look at this city and imagine that it will be my home for at least 12 months now. I'm happy but somehow can't really process this fact yet.

My new neighbourhood is called Victoria Park. Jarryd already showed me around a bit and I really like it here so far. There is a shopping center and the main street with some nice cafés and restaurants right around the corner. We're also not far away from Perth city center, so this will be my next destination to go and explore. But tomorrow  I will have to open up an Australian bank account  first, otherwise I can't pay my ticket.

Another corner of the city I've already visited is North Perth. We went to a lovely street festival there on Sunday wih lots of food stalls, music, kids activities and local handmade products. I got to know Jarryd's sister, brother-in-law and his adorable little 1,5 year old nephew.

I'm feeling really good here right now. Some things are still a bit weird and hard to adapt to, but it's only been 4 days, so I'm sure I'll settle in more and more over the next few weeks.
I'm really surprised because I thought it would be much harder for me to leave my beloved Düsseldorf, friends and family behind. I also thought I couldn't stand the hot weather and the yucky insects. And I really didn't think it would be possible for me to quit smoking.
BUT everything worked out just fine! I'm in contact with my friends and family over social media a lot, the weather has been merciful with me so far, the insect encounters have been staying within bearable limits and I am a non-smoker as of 4 days now.

Have a nice day everyone!

my last days in Düsseldorf - a little update

Hello loves!

Only three days left until I'll go to Australia!
Here is a little update on what's been going on lately. I thought it would be nice to simply use my Instagram pics because I've been on Instagram nonstop anyway.

Follow Bad Taste Toast on Instagram if you like! :)

So, what have I been doing? Well, first of all I moved out, painted and cleaned my apartment and returned the keys to the landlord. I've sold a lot of my furniture lately and eventually managed to fit all of my belongings into a 5 sqm trailer (that's what will be stored in my dad's basement).

I've also been enjoying the beautiful autumn we have here this year. I'm staying at a friend's place at the moment and he lives right by the Rhine so I can see the pretty riverside everyday - love it so much!

Oh and then there's the food, right? I've been trying to work off my food bucket list for Düsseldorf. Visited old and new favourite eateries (Kaffeepiraten, Ugly Deluxe, What's Beef) and tried out new things (Yomaro, Stier Royal). As I quit my job at the frozen yoghurt shop I am now finally allowed to try our competitor's products - mmhh yumm it was so good!

What have you been up to lately?
Hope everyone's having a lovely start of the new week!

wear it pink challenge

Hey loves!

The other day my blogger friend La Bohème tagged me for a fun project: the Wear It Pink Challenge, which was started to raise breast cancer awareness in breast cancer month October.
It was perfect timing because when I had been sorting out what clothes to take to Australia, I rediscovered this pretty pink dress in my closet. I purchased it on Ebay some months ago, it was a total bargain and I had totally forgotten about it. Well, now here it is! It's Pins and Needles by Urban Outfitters by the way and cost me something around 10 €.
I can imagine not many people bid on it because pink is a really hard-to-style colour - at least that's what I think. I've never been a fan of pink, I don't own many pink pieces. But maybe it's time to stock up on pink clothes? I kind of liked wearing it. What do you think?

Oh and I would also like to tag people for this Wear Pink Challenge, namely: Missy's World, Gems - Fashion Well Done and By Woods And Water.
Hope you'll have fun styling something pink ladies!

What else has happened? Not much, I'm still selling my furniture and this Friday I'll move out and crash on a friend's couch until next week - and then I'll fly to Australia, crazy!
Apart from preparing my departure I've been listening to Ed Sheeran, Passenger and Regina Spektor in turns. I'm a sucker for singer/songwriter music and these three have kept me company on cozy evenings at home lately. Just awesome voices and piano or guitar, good music doesn't need more.

I'v also started Weight Watchers again last week to finally tackle the 10 kilos I gained while writing my bachelor thesis and recovering from my broken foot earlier this year. I want to be fit for the Australian summer and need to get back to my feel good weight. After the first week not much has happened weight-wise because my body has to get used to the new diet again, but I know it'll get better in the course of the next weeks. Last time it started working after 2-3 weeks and I eventually lost 15 kilos, so I'm sure I'll see good results again soon this time.

That's what's been going on in my life lately. I hope you like the Wear Pink look?
Feel free to take part in the challenge too and post me a link to your outfit in the comments so I can see it, okay? :)

Happy Tuesday!

favourite accessory: coffee

Hello loves!

Yes, you hardly ever see me without coffee at the moment because there is still so much to do and only two weeks left until I go to Australia for a year. Waah, feels so unreal to write it down. I only work two days a week and have the rest of the time off but it's not all easy breezy relaxing in bed.
I'm trying to get rid of most of my furniture, so different people pick up the stuff they've bought at least two or three times a day. Furthermore it's a pain in the a** to cancel all my contracts (internet, mobile fone, insurances) - German bureaucracy is a real bitch! And don't even get me started about opening hours of the places I have to go...
BUT I can see progress. I'm getting there. Just need to tell myself not to forget breathing every once in a while.

I wore this cute little number to run errands on Wednesday. Nothing better than a good old polkadots and denim combo for October. I also really had to wear the cardigan because wine red is one of my favourite autumn colours ever!
As you might have noticed, my hair is freshly dyed again and shines in a bright warm copper tone - I love it! So perfect in the golden sunlight we've been having plenty of lately.

Last but not least: how do you like my new blog design?
On Wednesday I suddenly got so sick and tired of the old design, especially because the old template I used was really chaotic. I had changed so much in the CSS/HTML over the past years, I didn't even know where to adjust the simplest things anymore.
Now I've started from scratch and built up everything on a structed and easy-to-use template with a replaceable background and all the info no longer all over the place. Everything is in its spot again and I feel much better about the blog now.
Hopefully you guys like it too?

Happy Thursday dolls!

liebster award

Hello my dear readers!

I'm back and ready to dive into the blogosphere again!
I'm almost unemployed now and will leave the country in two weeks, so until then I'll try to enjoy autumn as much as possible. That means I'll post some lovely autumn looks before I leave for sunny Australia.

One of my former co-workers from my marketing internship is a blogger herself at Lass-mal-Reden and was so kind to tag me for the Liebster Award.
I have to to answer 11 questions and tag 11 other bloggers - this'll be fun!

1) Why do you blog and when did you start?

I started blogging in 2010 because I felt so inspired by websites like Chictopia or Lookbook and wanted to see if people would like my outfits too. Over the years, however, blogging has become so much more for me. It's a huge motivation for me to try out new looks, discover new brands, places and people.

2) What's your favourite topic to blog about?

Hm actually I just like to empty my head here, no matter if about fashion, daily life or whatever else goes through my mind.

3) Cookies or crisps? Coffee or tea? Movie or book?

Cookies! COFFEE!!! Book!

4) What would you never blog about?

I think I would never do a "worst dressed people" post or something like that. I hate it when magazines do that. Let people wear what they want!

5) If time travelling was possible, what historical person would you meet for coffee?

Wow, that's a good one! I wouldn't have to travel back in time too much because I would choose Frank McCourt, an Irish/American gentleman who is my favourite author in the world. He wrote "Angela's Ashes" for example. He passed away some years ago, but I've seen his readings on Youtube and I bet it would be so interesting to talk to him about his life!

6) Which book should be read by every person in the world?

The dictionary would be a good start for most people...

7) Where would you like to travel to?

Well, even though I'll go to Australia for a year, the top three on my bucket list are Scotland, Iceland and Canada.

8) What was the most embarrassing moment at school?

Haha definitely when I ripped my pants around the crotch area once in music class!

9) What would you give the shirt off your back for?

Hm, something important like getting rid of my annoying allergies for example.

10) What's your absolute favourite food?

Simple. Pizza! Always!

11) Describe yourself in 5 words.

Sarcastic, melancholic, egoistic, pessimistic, thoughtful.

I'm not a fan of tagging certain people because half of the ones I tag never care anyway.
So please everyone feel free to do this q&a on your own blog and post me the link in the comments so I can read it! :)

Happy Tuesday!
